Our success is in our team members. We have over 13,400 team members nationwide helping families Have it made™ by finding their dream homes.
For over 60 years Clayton has successfully helped open doors to a better life.
In 2015, we built over 34,000 homes to help people across America achieve their dream of homeownership.
Building homes since 1956
At Clayton, it is our mission to open doors to a better life and help families build happiness through homeownership. Since handing the first home key to our first customer in 1956, we have been proud of our dedication to innovation and providing affordable, quality built homes across America.
As a diverse builder offering traditional site built homes, modular homes, manufactured homes, tiny homes, college dormitories, military barracks and apartments, we believe that everyone should have the chance to pursue homeownership.
Helping you catch the dream
By providing an opportunity to affordable homeownership, adopting green practices and giving back to our community, we continue to shape and lead the nation’s housing industry into the future.
We have grown significantly since first opening our doors, but our timeless passion, vision and values have never been stronger. We strive to help hardworking families just like yours Have it made™ by finding your own beautiful, affordable slice of the world to call home.
There’s that thing in the Declaration of Independence where they say everyone has the right to pursue happiness, which is pretty cool. But then they sort of skip over the part where you actually catch up to happiness, and start enjoying it or whatever. Maybe that’s because they knew happiness involved a lot of things they couldn’t promise everyone. Like a beautiful, affordable, well-built home where people could experience it in the first place. Don’t get us wrong. The freedom to chase happiness around and around is totally awesome. But what good is all that pursuit if you never get to grab happiness by the scruff of the neck and make it your own?
Stony Gardens. Enchanted Meadows. King Edward’s Manor. With names like these, you almost expect to see happy little forest creatures running around outside while you enjoy your morning tea and biscuits on a cobblestone patio. The reality is you’re sitting just three inches of cheap drywall away from the neighbor’s kid’s French Horn lesson and your cobblestone patio is a balcony overlooking the parking lot. Thankfully, there’s a much better way to live. It’s called home. A Clayton Built™ home. And it’s a lot more affordable than you think.
THE MAKERS THAT MAKE IT HAPPEN. Each person making your home is skilled in a specific task, whether that’s putting up walls, installing wiring, making custom cabinetry or building frames.
Wind. Dirt. Rain. Scorpions. Weird dumpster-divers looking for scraps. None of these things is particularly good for a product under construction. Which is why products made to the most stringent standards, like semiconductors and supercars and the space shuttle, are all built inside. The fact is, stick-built homes are exposed to all sorts of unpredictable stuff during the months it takes to construct them on site. But Clayton Built™ homes are made in a climate-controlled, advanced building facility, where they’re only exposed to things like modern machinery, the hands of trained craftsmen, and the regular gaze of hard-to-please inspectors.
Why do we tell people we’re moving into a new home if dozens of other people have lived there before? When you move into a Clayton Built™ home, you move into a brand new home. New countertops, new floors, new paint. New everything. A place no one else has ever lived in but you. You don’t have to daydream about renovating an old bathroom. There is no old bathroom. And you don’t have to stress about things that need fixing, because everything works, not just because it’s new, but because of how it’s made. Sure, you can go ahead and buy a house that who knows how many people have lived in. Or you can be the only one who has ever used the bathroom, the bedroom, the kitchen, well, the everything.
NO ONE EVER REALLY MOVES OUT. 30,000 to 40,000 skin cells fall off of a person every minute. Now picture yourself moving into a home that a family of five lived in for a decade. That’s when math is scary. Yes, there are industrial strength cleaners out there and vacuums with HEPA filters. But does anyone really know what HEPA filters are and where they came from? What does HEPA even mean?
People choose our homes because they make a lot of sense. Years ago, you’d never imagine that famous actors, celebrities, or rock stars would consider buying a home built this way. You’d think the 12-bedroom mansion with infinity pool was more their style. But today, a lot of people who can afford any home on the planet are choosing to buy Clayton Built™ homes, because to them, efficiency and modern innovation is far more beautiful than excess.
People who wear hemp shoes and shop at stores where they have bicycle wheel chandeliers and furniture made out of old railroad ties like to call not wasting things “sustainability.” Normal people call it life. Because the idea of wasting a bunch of money and energy just seems like shooting yourself in the foot. Sure, we might buy a boat or an ATV if the fancy strikes. But we keep things in balance by living in homes that can be ENERGY STAR® certified with high-quality insulation, high-performance windows, super-tight construction and energy efficient thermostats. Which, we find, is way more comfortable than a hole in your foot.

It’s your kingdom. Where you eat and sleep, make all the rules, walk around naked or spend an entire weekend streaming TV. Simply put, it’s the most awesome thing you’ll ever buy. So why isn’t buying it more fun? Sure, big purchases come with responsibility, stress and a lot of paperwork. But we’ve got a whole bunch of nice people, working hard to make sure you have transparency, communication and, yes, fun, throughout the entire process. It’s a home. Your home. And buying it is gonna be a really good time.
Who decides who gets to have an awesome life, and who doesn’t? We don’t believe that power should reside with bosses or landlords or creditors or “fluctuations in the market.” We think it should be up to you. When you buy a Clayton Built™ home, you get more than a stone fireplace, spa bathroom or custom cabinets you choose yourself. You get something everyone should have a crack at. The feeling that you’ve arrived. That you belong. Because there’s a beautiful, affordable slice of the world you get to call your own. And everything changes when you Have it made®.

There’s more to a home than just solid engineering and a modern design with all the bells and whistles. A home is a place to make memories and messes in, to color the walls blue and green because your kids got a new set of markers, to bake and laugh and grow and thrive. That’s why Clayton pays special care and attention to every square inch of each home we build from concept to delivery and installation and beyond.
Your home is certified by third-party inspectors before it leaves our home building facility for the following quality assurances:
When you buy a home with the Clayton Built® stamp on it, you’re getting a home that is just as important to us as it is to you. You can be sure that your home is built on a foundation of strength, integrity and accountability, because for us, “good enough” just doesn’t cut it.
